1. iRobot S8

This smart robot vacuum and automated vacuum cleaner mop combination is a great option for homes with a variety of. It vacuums and mops well and has a great navigation system that includes both GPS and laser sensors and comes with a variety of controls and features available via the app. It comes with a useful feature which allows you to create cleaning zones in areas that require extra attention, and also to create Keep Out zones in areas that you don't wish it to go. And, like all Roomba devices, it gets new software updates that make it even better over time.

It's expensive however, it's also one of the most advanced robot vacuums that ZDNet has evaluated. It has a powerful battery that can vacuum an entire home in less than two hours. It can also switch between mopping and vacuuming with the push of the button. It automatically emptys the trash bin that is above its charging station, in contrast to other self emptying robots which require you to empty it after every run.

It comes with a variety of other features that make it a good option for most homes with its intelligent obstacle avoidance that utilizes the camera as well as processor-powered smarts to see obstacles. It isn't often entangled or trapped during a cleaning cycle, and it's the best at avoiding power cables and other objects I've tested. It's not as reliable in detecting pet waste, or other dangers.

2. Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid

Eufy owned by Anker It has become an iconic name in the world of low-cost robot vacuums. But it didn't offer the option of a model that could mop. This is changing with the X8 Hybrid, which has an impressive suite of advanced features and can compete well against much more expensive models.

The laser navigation system is the main selling point of this machine. The X8 makes use of laser mapping technology that is more precise than previous Eufy devices. It also takes significantly less time to create an accurate picture of your home and can store multiple maps, which is great for homes with multiple floors.

The X8 is still a decent vacuum on bare floors, slinging debris under its side brushes and into the 400ml dust bin with ease. The tyres are adept at securing edges and corners even though they are circular. It's not a great kitty litter eater, however, with our tests showing it can only remove about 90 percent of the fur off hard floors.

The basic mopping mode uses the same water reservoir as the vacuuming mode. This is ideal for spills that are not serious, but you cannot regulate the amount of water it uses. It's effective at picking up pet hair. It has a higher pick-up rate than the Roborock S7.

3. Miele RX2

Miele's RX2 robotic vacuum is renowned for its quiet, powerful appliances. It features a stunning design, excellent navigation, and excellent cleaning power. It has some oddities in its operation, which prevent it from being ranked as the top smart robot vacuum.

The RX2 comes with a dual-sensor mapping technology that makes use of LIDAR to map a room, and a pair 3D scanning cameras to detect and staying clear of obstacles (such as furniture legs or pet waste). Once the room has been mapped, you can designate virtual no-go areas and favorite sections to the robot. You can also change the cleaning modes, initiate an automatic clean or see live feeds from the cameras onboard from the main screen.

The RX2 has superior sensors that can identify furniture and other obstructions immediately. Its sweeping and suction power are top-notch and cleans up surface debris from carpets of medium pile and dust on floors with no floor. But it's not the most agile robot on the market. It's not the most efficient climber and has issues with transition strips made of steel.

Some people buy a robot vacuum for the hands-off convenience of setting a schedule in an app and not thinking about it for weeks at a time. It's crucial that a robot is able to get the job done, which is the reason our ZDNet staff looked over and tested a number of the most popular ones to help you find the best vacuum mop combo one for your home.

4. Shark ION

This budget robovac that is similar to other, but comes with some extra features and a better performance. Its intelligent mapping system creates 2D and 3-D maps of your house and uses to navigate and avoid obstructions. It can even detect common obstacles like furniture legs and power cords in real-time. This combination of sensors along with a bump sensor, and an infrared sensor for dropping that keeps it off the stairs make it one of the most flexible vacuums we've tested.

In our tests, it effortlessly moved over large shag rug and didn't get stuck on them (like the RoboVac 11s or Roomba 690). Its navigational skills were impressive as well and its overall score on carpet and bare floors beat out the competition. It was able to pick up 98.5 percent of surface litter and embedded pet hair from our laboratory test samples.

Its controls are a bit simpler than the competitors. There's an oblong cleaning button at the top, and you can access it via the app, or by voice commands with Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also schedule daily or weekly cleanings, designate no-go zones and check its history of cleaning. Covered in stylish dark gray plastics, Ion feels sturdy and looks stylish in your home. Its rear dust bin is easy to access for emptying and cleaning the filter is equally easy.

5. Eufy 11S

Eufy 11S is an excellent option for those looking for an automated vacuum cleaner that is simple and doesn't have any frills at a cost that is low. The model isn't equipped with smart features such as Alexa integration and digital mapping, which are available in higher-end models. However, if you don't need these functions, you can save money.

This robot is simple to set up and use. It doesn't require smartphone application or Wi-Fi pairing. However it does include a remote control which lets you select between various modes and adjust the suction levels. You can also assign the robotvac to the schedule of cleaning.

During our tests, we found that the 11S was extremely efficient at getting dirt and pet fur from hard floors and low-pile carpets. Its slim profile made it possible to get under low-hanging furniture and other objects that bulkier robots could not reach. It was able to pass easily over thresholds of doorways and move from one floor type to another.

The 11S, like other robots will also suckup some items, including cords and cat toys. The manufacturer suggests you prevent this from happening by keeping these items off the ground and using a cord organiser whenever possible. It also recommends that you periodically clean the dustbin, change the filters, and wash or change the brushes when needed.

6. IRobot Roomba 980

The Roomba is iRobot’s flagship robot vacuum. It's expensive but it's the most powerful robot vacuum you can buy. Its self-navigation feature and environmental mapping is something to behold. It is more sophisticated in its automation than the majority of its rivals, for instance the capability to set up virtual boundary markers through its mobile app. Although its application is a bit slow and the 980 can spin a bit when moving over cables, it's a highly efficient robot vacuum.

We love the 980 because it uses its iAdapt2.0 navigation sensors as well as visual simultaneity localisation and mapping (or vSLAM) to remember your home's floor plan. It then uses the information to create an efficient and consistent cleaning path for every cycle. The result is cleaner floors and a more efficient vacuum cleaner than the majority of high-end robots.

Other features of the 980 include dual multi-surface brushes which grab dirt from hard floors and carpets and an ejector brush that spins to sweep debris into the robotic vacuum’s bin. Its floor tracking sensors aid it navigate around furniture and along edges, and Cliff Detect helps to prevent the Roomba from falling down stairs. It can also return automatically to the base station to allow for charging between sessions. Although the 980's battery lifespan and bin size aren't quite as good as those of other robot vacuums it's a reliable and solid machine that can keep your floors clean for hours at a time.
